The Best Dog Bed Setup for Popular UK Breeds
A quick breed-by-breed guide to choosing the right size and support, from Cavapoos and Frenchies to Labradors, Cockers and Golden Retrievers.
Every breed sleeps a little differently, in size, in shape, and in the amount of support they need. Here's a quick guide to the breeds we're asked about most, and how to set them up for proper rest.
Cavapoos & Cockapoos
Sociable, often smaller than owners expect, and frequent curl-up sleepers. Most are comfortable in a Small or Medium. Go by the measurement rather than the name; "poo" crosses vary a lot in size.
French Bulldogs & Pugs
Compact but solid, and prone to overheating, so a breathable, washable cover earns its keep. A Medium suits most, with plenty of room to sprawl on warm nights.
Cocker & Springer Spaniels
Active dogs that sleep hard after a long walk. Cockers sit comfortably in a Medium; Springers, being leggier, are usually happier in a Large.
Labradors & Retrievers
Big, heavy sleepers whose joints deserve real support. This is where a proper memory-foam base genuinely pays off. A Large fits most Labradors comfortably; Golden Retrievers, with their extra frame and coat, belong in an XL.
Larger and giant breeds
German Shepherds, Ridgebacks, Labradoodles. An XL, every time. The bigger the dog, the more weight bears down on the joints, and the more a supportive base matters.
Lean breeds
Greyhounds, whippets, lurchers. Little natural padding means bony pressure points, so memory foam is a comfort upgrade they feel immediately. Size up for the stretchers among them.
